Cursor, known for its AI Code Editor, is launching a new code-hosting platform to rival developers' long preferred favorite, GitHub.
Will Cursor announce a waitlist or beta for its hosting platform by August 25, 2026?
Resolves by Aug 25, 2026
Cursor, an AI startup that is now part of SpaceX, launched Origin, a new code-hosting platform that allows developers to collaboratively work on codebases, handle pull-requests, and store code in repositories, similar to what GitHub offers. Origin is designed to work alongside GitHub in an interoperable way, allowing developers to sync repositories between the two platforms. The launch comes as GitHub has faced persistent service problems, including a major worldwide outage on the same day Origin launched and 257 outages over the past year, which has caused frustration among developers. While GitHub remains the dominant platform with 180 million developers, Cursor's new service represents an attempt to capture dissatisfied users by providing an alternative that integrates AI-native features.
