OpenAI: An updated Model Spec for more capable and beneficial AI
OpenAI’s updated Model Spec outlines five core values to guide more capable AI toward sound judgment, human agency, and faithfulness to human intent.
OpenAI has updated its Model Spec, a public description of how it wants its AI models to behave, reorganizing the guidance around five core values: faithfulness to human intent, harm minimization, honesty and transparency, human agency, and care. As AI models become more capable and take more consequential actions, the update aims to help them understand human values and exercise good judgment in situations their instructions do not explicitly address. The revision adds new guidance on context, oversight, and agency, while retiring detailed style guidance that should instead adapt to user preferences. OpenAI states that the Model Spec describes behavior it is working toward but that its current models do not yet fully reflect it.
