Wabi launches personal AI assistant with shared threads

TechCrunch: Replika’s founder built the AI assistant she pitched at Disrupt 12 years ago

Eugenia Kuyda's newest startup Wabi is positioned to take advantage of an idea she had more than a decade ago. Wabi offers a personal AI assistant with a twist, free and downloadable to anyone today.

Get smart on it

A founder who presented a conversational chatbot at a tech conference 12 years ago has now launched a new personal AI assistant called Wabi that builds on technology developments since that original pitch. The new product functions as a messenger app with multiple separate conversation threads, each dedicated to different tasks and long-term goals, and allows users to share threads as group chats. Wabi differentiates itself from competing personal AI assistants by automatically building custom apps within threads based on user needs, rather than requiring users to build apps themselves, and by supporting multiplayer shared threads instead of only one-on-one conversations between a user and an AI agent. The founder previously built Replika, an AI chatbot company, before leaving as CEO to start Wabi.

Anthropic has nearly stopped hiring junior staff because AI agents now work six times as many hours

Anthropic is hiring fewer and fewer junior staff in technical roles. The share of junior positions among new hires dropped from 27 to 9 percent since early 2025. By August 2026, AI agents across the company were already logging six times as many hours as humans. Researchers warn of a "tragedy of the cognitive commons": if junior positions disappear, experienced specialists will be in short supply down the road.
