OpenAI builds specialized ad system for ChatGPT

OpenAI: How we built ChatGPT’s novel ad stack for user trust and relevance

Learn how OpenAI built ChatGPT’s LLM-powered ad stack to understand conversational intent, keep ads separate from answers, and deliver relevant ads at scale.

Get smart on it

OpenAI built a specialized advertising system for chat conversations that works differently from traditional ads because user intent develops gradually across multiple conversation turns rather than appearing as a single discrete event. The system uses a custom language model to interpret conversation context and decide when and which ads to show, while keeping the ads selection process completely separate from the chatbot's answer generation to prevent advertising from influencing responses. This architectural separation ensures ads cannot interfere with the core product and allows the system to show no ad at all if one is not clearly beneficial to users.

Gemini's Personal Intelligence is coming to cars

Google kicked off 2026 with the addition of Personal Intelligence to Gemini, allowing its AI to pull in more of your data to formulate answers. It started as a paid feature but eventually came to all Gemini users. However, this feature wasn't available in the car until now. Google is rolling out Personal Intelligence to Android Auto and Google Built-in, and it is still, thankfully, an optional feature. As Google points out, a generative AI's outputs are better "when it knows the world and knows
