Granite Switch 4.1 combines chat, decisions, and speech

Hugging Face: Granite Switch 4.1: Chat, Decisions, and Speech from One Endpoint

Consolidating multiple AI capabilities into a single model could reduce complexity and costs for organizations deploying conversational systems at scale.

Get smart on it

Granite Switch 4.1 is a modular AI model system that combines chat capabilities, decision-making tasks, and speech-to-text functions within a single endpoint. The system uses specialized components called adapters that share a base model's memory cache, allowing multiple capabilities to run with minimal additional computing resources compared to running separate models. This approach enables faster switching between different task types, such as moving from a text conversation to a safety screening task to audio transcription, all in real time on a single GPU. The significance is that organizations can access multiple AI functionalities without proportionally increasing their computational overhead.

OpenAI will reportedly ship at least one model this year but its flagship still needs alignment work

OpenAI is racing to finish its next flagship model, which uses the same looped transformer technique as Astra to boost math and coding performance. The tradeoff is that looping makes safety monitoring harder. Microsoft accidentally revealed details about how the technique works on a public page. Whether or not the flagship is ready in time, employees say one or two new models will likely ship by year's end. The article OpenAI will reportedly ship at least one model this year but its fla
