Google releases Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash video model

Google DeepMind: Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash: Fast and cost-effective with longer clips

Faster processing and reduced costs make multimodal AI more practical for developers building real-time applications at scale.

What happened

Google has released Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash, an updated video generation and editing model that can create clips up to 15 seconds long, compared to the previous 10-second maximum. The new model costs $0.07 per second for 720p video, representing a 30 percent price reduction from Omni 1.1 Flash. The model is available on Google Cloud and the Gemini API.

What each outlet adds
  • Google DeepMind ↗: Emphasizes that faster processing and reduced costs make multimodal AI more practical for developers building real-time applications at scale.
  • MarkTechPost ↗: Reports that improvements include better adherence to user instructions, more natural dialogue with clearer lip-sync, and improved camera control, though the model has known limitations with fast sports action, rapid script changes, and complex physics simulations.
Why it matters

The longer clip length and lower cost per second reduce the need for re-renders, making video generation more practical and affordable for developers building applications at scale.

OpenAI says its new cybersecurity model is better at not hacking other companies

OpenAI is launching GPT-6 Cyber, the latest version of its cybersecurity AI model, which it says is better at finding vulnerabilities and less likely to go rogue and hack other platforms in the process. OpenAI says that during testing, GPT-6 Cyber went out of bounds less than 1 percent of the time, down from around 5 percent with GPT-5.6 Cyber. The evaluation, called ExploitGym HoneyPot, is modeled after the Hugging Face Incident, in which OpenAI's AI agents breached the open-s
