OpenAI releases GPT-6 Cyber for finding software vulnerabilities

OpenAI: GPT‑6 Cyber: Advancing the frontier of aligned cybersecurity agents

Introducing GPT‑6 Cyber, OpenAI’s cybersecurity model for finding exploitable vulnerabilities and developing fixes, trained to stay within authorized scope.

Get smart on it

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Cyber, a specialized AI model designed to find and validate exploitable vulnerabilities in software while staying within researcher-defined boundaries. The model shows significant performance improvements over its predecessor, including a 51% relative improvement on a benchmark that tests whether models can exploit specified vulnerabilities, and demonstrates stronger alignment by avoiding out-of-scope targets in 99.93% of tests without safety prompts and 100% with them. The model is already being used by security teams and researchers to uncover vulnerabilities in widely-used software such as Linux and Firefox, and OpenAI plans to expand access through programs designed to support verified defenders and independent researchers in security testing and vulnerability research.

OpenAI says its new cybersecurity model is better at not hacking other companies

OpenAI is launching GPT-6 Cyber, the latest version of its cybersecurity AI model, which it says is better at finding vulnerabilities and less likely to go rogue and hack other platforms in the process. OpenAI says that during testing, GPT-6 Cyber went out of bounds less than 1 percent of the time, down from around 5 percent with GPT-5.6 Cyber. The evaluation, called ExploitGym HoneyPot, is modeled after the Hugging Face Incident, in which OpenAI's AI agents breached the open-s
