Baidu releases ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base language model

MarkTechPost: Baidu Releases ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base: A 280B MoE Base Model With 14B Active Parameters

Baidu has released ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base, the raw pre-training checkpoint of its new sparse Mixture-of-Experts language model. ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base is a 280B-parameter text model from Baidu that activates 14B parameters per token. The weights stop at the end of pre-training, with no mid- or post-training applied. This as a clean starting point for teams that want to compare fine-tuning, instruction tuning or RL methods from one checkpoint. TL;DR Size: 280B total, 14B active per token; 128

Get smart on it

A 280-billion parameter language model was released as a raw pre-training checkpoint with 14 billion active parameters per token, designed as a clean starting point for teams to test their own fine-tuning and training methods. The model uses a sparse architecture where most layers employ heavily compressed attention that caches only one entry per 128 tokens, while maintaining full-context access in a smaller number of layers. On standardized benchmarks evaluated through the same pipeline, it scored highest on 24 of 30 base-model tests, outperforming comparable models from competing developers on tasks like MMLU-Pro and HumanEval+. The weights are available in multiple precision formats and can be deployed using standard serving frameworks with up to 1 million token context lengths for inference.

Why a new report on Anthropic automating AI development is alarming researchers

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. | Photo: Jason Henry/Bloomberg via Getty Images Anthropic is using AI to build more powerful AI. And it appears to be working remarkably well, with the company's models improving roughly twice as quickly as a year ago, with little indication of slowing down. That's according to a new report published Thursday by the AI safety research organization METR, following an 11-week investigation inside the company, as part of a report evaluating its AI resear

Nous Research Releases Arete-27B that Cuts Qwen3.8-27B Propaganda From 22% to 0.9%

Nous Research has released Arete-27B, a supervised fine-tune of Alibaba’s Qwen3.8-27B. Arete-27B is a 27B open-weight model that strips Chinese state framing from Qwen’s answers. On Nous’s own 803-prompt eval, answers containing propaganda fell from 22% to 0.9%. Developers get Qwen-class agentic skill without state-aligned answers. The weights, eval and training data are all public. TL;DR Size: 27B dense parameters (all active). Trained at 64k context. Base Qwen3.8-27B

Google Releases Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash: 15-Second AI Video at $0.07 per Second

Google has released Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash, the newest version of its video generation and editing model. Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash generates and edits clips up to 15 seconds natively. It also cuts the price by 30% compared with Omni 1.1 Flash. The model is generally available on Google Cloud and the Gemini API. For developers, the takeaways are longer clips, fewer re-renders and a lower bill per second. TL;DR Runs on: Google-hosted only (Gemini API, Google Cloud). No open weights, no local d
