YouTube Music labels songs made with generative AI

TechCrunch: YouTube Music launches new labels as AI-generated music floods streaming platforms

The label will appear on the player page and include songs entirely generated by AI or partially, such as involved in composition and vocals.

Get smart on it

YouTube Music announced a new labeling system to identify songs created with generative AI, allowing listeners to see whether tracks were entirely AI-generated, partly AI-generated, or contained no AI generation. The labels appear on the player page and extend to the main YouTube app, with partners able to declare their use of AI through one of three designations. This move addresses the rapid expansion of AI-generated music across streaming services, though YouTube's approach focuses on disclosure and transparency rather than restricting AI-created content from monetization. Other platforms have adopted different strategies, ranging from similar labeling systems to stricter measures like excluding AI-generated music from recommendations and withholding royalties.
