A tech CEO recently published a lengthy essay describing an optimistic AI future where everyone would have personal AI agents, but public and industry response has been skeptical. The skepticism stems partly from the messenger's track record: the same leader previously promised social networks would foster connection between friends, but instead delivered engagement-driven content and advertising. The CEO is positioning himself as opposing calls from other AI industry leaders to slow down development and focus on safety, instead arguing that slowing down would disempower individuals.
