While everyone in AI is chasing "superintelligence," Alexandre LeBrun, CEO of Yann LeCun’s world model startup, AMI Labs, dismisses the word.
The CEO of a world model AI startup avoids using industry terms like "AGI" or "superintelligence" because he argues there are no good definitions for them and the labels keep changing. World models differ from large language models in that they predict the next state of the physical world rather than the next word, making them potentially useful for robotics and other applications that interact with real environments. The startup is pre-product and is seeking partnerships with robotics, manufacturing, and electronics companies to train its systems on real-world data rather than in laboratories. This approach reflects a broader industry shift toward focusing on practical applications in the physical world rather than debating terminology about artificial intelligence capabilities.
