Ars Technica: Vibe genes? Natural(ish) language comes to protein, genome design software
Protein design tools may be getting increasingly sophisticated, but you still need a sophisticated understanding of protein structure for them to work. This can include knowing enzyme mechanisms down to the positions of specific amino acids, as well as the water molecules that also occupy the area where catalysis takes place. Once you specify these, the tools can build the rest of a protein around this target. A large collaboration of researchers based in China, however, decided to bring protein
Researchers have created a tool that lets people design proteins by describing what they want in natural language rather than specifying technical details about amino acid positions and structures. Traditionally, protein design required sophisticated knowledge of protein chemistry and enzyme mechanisms, but this new approach uses databases of millions of protein sequences paired with function descriptions to translate plain language requests into actual protein designs. The tool works in two stages: first converting text descriptions into a structural blueprint showing spatial relationships between amino acids, then constructing the actual amino acid sequence. While the success rate appears low when tested, this reflects the filtering process that removes designs resembling known proteins, and a similar natural language approach has also been developed for designing DNA sequences.

OpenAI and Oracle are expanding their partnership to bring business applications and AI agents into ChatGPT and power new Oracle offerings.

Apple is bringing an AI assistant to its suite of productivity apps, including Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. The assistant, which is built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI, can understand a document's context to perform tasks like designing, animating, and refining slides in Keynote. In Pages, Apple says the AI assistant can draft, restructure, and tweak written content. It can also calculate, visualize, and organize data in Numbers, while suggesting chart types and building c
SAP SE today announced a set of artificial intelligence innovations at its annual TechEd conference for developers, enhancing its Joule assistant solutions and Business AI Platform, including tabular data foundation models. New capabilities in Joule Work will help AI agents become more efficient and interoperate with open protocols. In this case, the Model Context Protocol […] The post SAP advances its autonomous enterprise push with smarter, governed Joule agents appeared first on Silicon

Alexander Embiricos, the OpenAI executive responsible for dots, never wants to have a meeting with someone else's AI agent.

Today, Apple rolled out the 27.2 updates for its operating systems, including iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and so on. Let's start with iOS 27.2. This update is heavily focused on Siri AI. It adds a memory feature to Siri, so it can "recall your past conversations" and reference them when chatting with you. It also expands what data sources Siri can access when giving responses to include voicemails, Messages attachments, and more.Read full article Comments

Anthropic says companies should evaluate whether they can consolidate sub-agents into a single agent that loads context on demand. In one architecture comparison, the single-agent setup ran about twice as fast. Anthropic has published a migration kit on GitHub to help teams make the transition.
