OpenAI launches dots, an always-on AI assistant

TechCrunch: How OpenAI turned its coding tools into dots, an always-on personal assistant

Alexander Embiricos, the OpenAI executive responsible for dots, never wants to have a meeting with someone else's AI agent.

Get smart on it

OpenAI released an always-on AI personal assistant called dots that works in the background of its ChatGPT apps for paid subscribers, connecting to users' calendars, email, and other tools to proactively help with work tasks. The product represents a shift in how AI companies are packaging their coding tools and models, moving from chat interfaces to persistent agents framed as single entities rather than multiple separate conversations. Dots collects data about users to improve its helpfulness through a feature called proactive research, raising privacy concerns similar to those facing competitors, though OpenAI says users can control model training and resource access. The scalability of AI agents remains uncertain, as businesses and individuals may resist interacting with multiple agents, and the infrastructure supporting widespread agent use, particularly for financial transactions, is still being developed.

Anthropic says one AI agent beats many subagents now that models can handle complexity alone

Anthropic says companies should evaluate whether they can consolidate sub-agents into a single agent that loads context on demand. In one architecture comparison, the single-agent setup ran about twice as fast. Anthropic has published a migration kit on GitHub to help teams make the transition. Anthropic Launches OSS Scanner, a Free AI Vulnerability Scanner

Anthropic has launched OSS Scanner, a free, opt-in vulnerability scanner for critical open-source projects. The Anthropic OSS Scanner runs the company’s strongest models, including Claude Mythos, against enrolled codebases. Reports go straight to maintainers without human review. That trade delivers faster findings, but shifts triage work onto project teams. 11 days after the October 8 launch, Anthropic reported 77 critical and 803 high model-rated findings.
