An AI agent was advertised as a solution to "weaponized incompetence" in relationships, a term describing partners who act incapable of tasks like cooking and scheduling to avoid doing them. The promotional ad showed the AI handling all the work for an inconsiderate boyfriend while allowing him to take credit, which drew backlash from users who criticized it as enabling immature behavior and unhealthy relationships. A licensed marriage and family therapist explained that outsourcing relationship communication through AI prevents couples from addressing underlying problems and that indirect communication through a third party, including AI, is known to strain relationships. A recent survey found that AI assistants are actually making dating decisions harder, with a majority of respondents saying such advice left them confused or influenced them to postpone relationship decisions.
