Spotify will label ‘AI Persona’ profiles and exclude their music from recommendations

Spotify is implementing a system to identify and label artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities rather than real people, with badges appearing starting in mid-September. Music from these labeled AI Persona profiles will be excluded from the platform's editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default, though users who explicitly follow an AI Persona can still listen to their music. This policy reflects Spotify's attempt to balance its own AI-powered features and tools with concerns about low-quality AI-generated content proliferating on the platform, while addressing growing consumer backlash against AI-generated art. The company will identify AI Personas through both artist self-disclosure and by reviewing profiles where names and imagery appear to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities, and artists can appeal incorrect labels.
