Spotify is introducing labels to identify artist profiles that do not represent real people, with music from these AI personas excluded from recommendations and editorial suggestions by default. The platform will use human review and AI tools to detect profiles that appear to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities, applying either an "AI Persona" badge for self-disclosed artists or a "Likely AI Persona" badge for suspected AI artists. This response addresses listener feedback that they dislike discovering an artist profile seemed human only to learn the persona is AI-generated. The change comes as AI-generated music continues to flood streaming platforms, with the rollout beginning in mid-September.
