Forget stickers, GIFs, and emoji reactions. Pixi is betting that the next evolution of messaging is interactive augmented reality (AR).
A startup has launched a messaging app that allows users to send AI-powered augmented reality characters through text messages that can react to their surroundings and respond in real time when viewed through an iPhone camera. The characters combine AR technology with on-device AI to understand what is happening around them, creating interactive experiences like a virtual cat that reacts to a real dog walking past. The company plans to expand by creating a marketplace where studios, brands, and independent creators can share characters, and eventually allow users to create their own custom characters. The app currently offers a few characters and games, is free for users, and is initially available only on newer iPhone models with plans to expand to Android and other messaging platforms.

In this tutorial, we build a speech recognition and translation workflow using NVIDIA Canary-1B-v2. We begin by setting up the required audio, NeMo, NumPy, and SciPy dependencies, then load the Canary model on a GPU-enabled runtime for efficient inference. From there, we prepare audio into a clean 16 kHz mono format, perform English ASR, translate speech into multiple languages, generate word and segment timestamps, export translated subtitles as an SRT file, test long-form transcription, run b
