ChatGPT Health adds Epic integration for clinicians to import patient data

OpenAI is integrating ChatGPT Health with Epic's electronic health record system, which contains data for over 325 million patients, allowing clinicians to import patient data and use AI to summarize information like appointment notes, laboratory results, and medications. The integration provides read-only access to health records, and clinicians can use ChatGPT within their existing workflows for tasks like pre-visit reviews and building clinical timelines. OpenAI is also adding a Healthcare Public Data plug-in that can access information from sources including ClinicalTrials.gov, CMS Coverage, RxNorm, DailyMed, and PubMed to help healthcare workers with trial eligibility and medication information. The company maintains that despite these integrations with medical systems, AI is not suitable for diagnosis or treatment, though it tested the system across 27 clinical use cases and found 99.1% of responses were safe.
