Bringing ChatGPT for Teachers to more U.S. school districts

OpenAI is expanding access to ChatGPT for Teachers, a tool designed specifically for K-12 educators, to more than 100,000 additional educators and staff across 55 school districts in 20 states. The expansion matters because it includes a new data privacy agreement covering 16 states that creates a common framework for districts to evaluate the tool against their student data privacy requirements, intended to make responsible AI adoption simpler across school systems. ChatGPT for Teachers is built with education-grade privacy protections, does not use data to train models by default, and is available only to verified educators and administrators, remaining free through mid-2028. OpenAI is pairing tool access with training, peer learning across districts, and ongoing support to help educators build skills and confidence in using AI to save time on administrative tasks while maintaining human oversight in education.
