
Claude users in India are starting to see Indian rupee-denominated subscription plans.
Anthropic has begun offering its Claude AI service with pricing in Indian rupees, making it more accessible to users in India by eliminating currency conversion friction. India is Claude's second-largest market globally after the U.S., accounting for a significant portion of usage, but the price-sensitive market has presented challenges in converting widespread usage into paid subscriptions. The localized pricing comes as Anthropic has increased its India operations through opening an office, hiring leadership, and partnering with major local IT services companies. Unlike competitor OpenAI, which already offers Indian rupee pricing with support for the country's widely-used UPI payment system, Anthropic currently requires users to pay by card or through app store billing methods.
