Teradyne Robotics, the parent company of collaborative robot maker Universal Robots, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a Chinese robotics company's German subsidiary, alleging copies of both hardware and software used in Universal Robots' collaborative robots. This is the company's second major intellectual property case against a Chinese robotics firm in Europe this year, following a copyright infringement case in February. The lawsuit was filed with the Unified Patent Court in Copenhagen, and a ruling could apply across 17 of 18 EU member states and certain countries outside the EU. Teradyne's leadership stated the primary goal is not financial compensation but stopping the copying of their innovations, citing concerns that inferior copycat products could create safety risks and damage the entire collaborative robotics industry's reputation.
