Google DeepMind released Gemini Robotics 2, an updated artificial intelligence model that enables robots to control their entire bodies rather than just upper bodies, performing complex physical tasks like walking, manipulating objects with precise dexterity, and coordinating movements across multiple limbs. The system includes advanced reasoning capabilities that allow robots to understand multi-step instructions, self-correct when tasks fail, and work collaboratively with other robots to complete jobs that single robots cannot do alone. The model can run locally on robotic devices without requiring internet connectivity and can adapt to new robot types within just a few hours of data. DeepMind emphasized that the system includes safety features designed to detect nearby humans, refuse unsafe actions, and stop robots when people approach too closely.
