BMW Group deploys Figure 03 humanoid after tests with previous version

BMW Group is expanding its use of humanoid robots in manufacturing after successfully testing an earlier model at one of its plants. The company previously deployed a humanoid robot that helped produce tens of thousands of vehicles by performing high-speed, physically demanding welding tasks. The newer humanoid model adds features including tactile-sensor hands, palm cameras, wireless charging, and speech-to-speech communication capabilities, and will now be used for sorting and sequencing components in the logistics area. This deployment demonstrates that humanoid robots are moving beyond experimental stages into practical manufacturing applications, which fits BMW's broader strategy to use physical AI for repetitive, ergonomically demanding, or safety-critical work.
