Electric Plant has built an AI-powered translator to help humans listen to what plants are saying with the subtle electricity coursing through their stems.
A startup has developed an AI model that interprets electrical signals flowing through plant stems to understand what plants need, such as water, nutrients, or light. Plants naturally communicate their conditions through electrical signals in their tissues, and the AI model can translate these signals across over 100 plant species to help farmers and growers make real-time adjustments to watering and fertilizer. The approach uses inexpensive sensors attached to plants that send data wirelessly to the cloud, where the AI processes it and returns actionable information. This technology could improve crop yields while reducing water use compared to traditional farming methods that rely on less precise tools like soil probes and satellite imagery.
