NVIDIA Cosmos3-H-Dreams: Bringing Clinical Surgery to Life Through Generative Simulation

Surgical simulations could help train doctors and test procedures before operating on real patients, potentially improving safety and outcomes.

Get smart on it

A generative simulator has been created that can produce real-time video of surgical procedures by learning from actual clinical recordings of surgery combined with the movements of surgical instruments. The simulator matters because it provides an alternative to traditional numerical simulation, capturing complex visual dynamics like tissue deformation and changing visibility without explicitly modeling the underlying physics. The model was trained on recordings from a specific surgical procedure and must maintain both visual realism and responsiveness to instrument commands, requiring it to handle challenges like occlusion, tissue motion, and the need to avoid accumulating errors over time. The system includes two versions with different speed and quality tradeoffs, and can potentially be adapted to other surgical procedures using similar training approaches.
