Nvidia is officially launching DLSS 5 this week, following a divisive announcement in March where we likened the AI upscaling tech to a "real-time generative AI filter for video games" and "motion smoothing for video games, but worse." DLSS 5 will officially be available on RTX 50-series desktop and laptop GPUs and through GeForce Now cloud gaming, though the only game with the tech so far is NBA 2K27 - which is launching September 3rd at 9PM PT on PC. Nvidia is launching DLSS 5, an AI upscaling technology that enhances video game graphics by using artificial intelligence to make games look more realistic based on their source content. The technology arrives this week but is initially available only for one game and requires newer GPU hardware, with a significant performance cost of 50 to 60 percent. The announcement was controversial because early examples showed the AI making dramatic changes to characters' appearances, though developers will have controls to determine how much the technology alters scenes. Currently only one game supports the technology at launch, and it remains unclear when other previously announced games will include it.

AI data centers' massive capital investments are at risk from corrosion, which begins during construction – not operations – yet preservation is rarely included in project governance or early planning.

At IFA 2026, Nvidia and its partners showed off the first RTX Spark-powered laptops and mini PCs, designed to run AI models right on your computer.

Power and water aren’t the only constraints on new builds. In many markets, fiber access and diversity now determine where facilities can be located and how quickly they can scale.
