Core Scientific Doubles AI Capacity to 1.1 GW in $14B AMD Deal

Core Scientific signed a 15-year agreement with AMD to double its AI data center capacity to approximately 1.1 GW across five campuses, representing more than $14 billion in potential contracted revenue and beginning in 2027. AMD receives exclusive rights to reserve up to an additional 2 GW of future capacity and will deploy its Instinct GPUs, EPYC processors, and ROCm software platform across Core Scientific's facilities. The deal matters because it shows that AI infrastructure competition increasingly depends on vendors' ability to provide a complete deployment path including power and cooling systems, not just chips themselves. Core Scientific is rapidly transitioning from bitcoin mining to AI workloads, with colocation revenue climbing to $136.7 million in the second quarter from $10.6 million a year earlier.
