A company has raised funding to deploy robotic systems in forestry operations, specifically using a combination of remote control and autonomous capabilities to operate heavy equipment like skidders that move felled trees. The forestry industry faces significant labor challenges, as the work is physically demanding, requires long hours at remote sites, and has high operator turnover, making it difficult for companies to find and retain experienced workers. The company's technology has already been deployed across multiple states in the southeastern U.S., where machines equipped with it have moved over 100,000 tons of timber in the past six months. The hybrid approach allows experienced operators to remotely manage complex tasks while machines handle routine work, which the company says improves safety, provides consistent operations, and generates large amounts of data to continuously improve performance.
