Brian Chesky on making Airbnb agent-friendly, the state of consumer AI, and why the world needs an AI-native operating system.
Airbnb's CEO argues that AI agents need their own dedicated operating system rather than being built on top of existing platforms like iOS or Windows. Currently, companies are developing AI applications for traditional operating systems, but the CEO believes AI requires infrastructure at the kernel level where all agent components can interact with each other. The concern is that without this foundational AI operating system, companies are instead racing to become the primary agent that controls all user interactions, which limits interoperability. The CEO sees agents as having potential to make different apps interoperable with each other in ways that traditional apps have not been, but this requires proper underlying software infrastructure rather than the current approach of building agents within existing consumer platforms.
