The UK government contracted an American software company to build a health data platform for the National Health Service, but one English region has refused to adopt it, instead relying on its own homegrown system. The region claims its platform is functionally superior and more trusted by the public, arguing that even technically strong systems fail without public trust. This disagreement has become part of a broader national debate about whether the government should terminate the contract early, especially as the software company's work in other areas has become controversial. The contract is worth over 400 million dollars and the government has until February to decide whether to end it.
