Private Claude Chats Exposed in Google and Bing Search Results
The screwup shows how tricky it can be to stop web crawlers from making ostensibly private conversations with AI chatbots entirely too public.

Private conversations with an AI chatbot were appearing in Google and Bing search results, exposing chats about sensitive topics like political advice, legal questions, and personal matters. The company that makes the chatbot uses standard web instructions called robots.txt to tell search engines not to index these shared conversations, but search engines require additional technical tags on individual pages to fully prevent indexing. The exposed chats lacked these additional tags, and while they no longer appear in Google results, they could potentially show up again in search engines until the proper technical protections are added.
