A judge has ruled that Minnesota's ban on "nudify" apps can take effect as scheduled, rejecting a lawsuit from xAI seeking to block it. The judge noted that xAI filed its legal challenge very late, only three days before the law was set to take effect and nearly three months after it was signed, suggesting the claimed harm was not immediate. xAI argued the ban is overly broad and that less restrictive alternatives could achieve the same goals, but the lawsuit can continue even as the law goes into effect. The ban was prompted by instances earlier in the year when users of a social media platform used xAI's chatbot to create and spread non-consensual sexualized images.
