Artists including authors, musicians, and illustrators are filing lawsuits against AI companies, primarily on copyright grounds, after discovering their work was used to train AI systems without permission. Some of these legal cases have resulted in wins and losses for artists, with particular debate around the definition of fair use. The lawsuits represent a broader effort by creative professionals to challenge what they view as unauthorized use of their intellectual property by companies that have become wealthy using their work.
