Anthropic's consumer-facing AI model was restored after weeks of negotiations with the Trump administration. The model had been sidelined in early June following an export control directive due to concerns over potential security vulnerabilities that researchers had identified. The government's restrictions had prevented foreign nationals and non-US employees from accessing the model, but the Department of Commerce has now lifted these export controls, allowing Anthropic to bring the model back online globally. To address the security concerns, Anthropic implemented an improved safety classifier designed to block the problematic behavior and redirect affected requests to an alternative model.
