Twitch has added a setting that allows streamers to opt out of having their content used to train their parent company's artificial intelligence models. The opt-out was introduced after it became public that Twitch and Amazon were using user-generated content for AI training by default, which prompted backlash from thousands of creators who questioned why this practice had not been made explicit earlier. High-quality training data has become a scarce resource for AI developers, and major technology companies including Meta and Google have similarly begun using user-generated content from their platforms to train their AI systems. While Twitch's terms of service since March 2024 granted the company broad rights to use user content, they did not specifically mention generative AI model training until this recent update.
