Crunchbase News: Series B Funding Is Up, But Fewer Deals Are Getting Done
More money, fewer rounds. That, in short, is the state of U.S. Series B startup funding in 2026, as venture capital investment continues to concentrate heavily around a handful of AI hotshots. Crunchbase data shows that so far this year, investors have poured around $48 billion into financings around the Series B stage 1, the highest tally in years. Series B funding in the U.S. reached approximately $48 billion in 2026, the highest amount in years, but the number of deals being completed fell below year-ago levels and is on track for a multiyear low. This concentration of capital reflects a sharp decline in smaller Series B rounds under $30 million, while very large rounds of $100 million or more have become increasingly common and represent roughly a quarter of all deals. The funding environment is heavily driven by artificial intelligence startups, which received about two-thirds of all Series B funding in 2026 compared to about half in 2025. The current climate favors startups seeking large funding rounds with demonstrated traction, while smaller Series B rounds have become scarce.
