Nscale buys Anyscale as it seeks to own more of the AI compute stack

Nscale, a British AI neocloud company, is acquiring Anyscale, a software startup that helps companies scale their AI workloads across data centers and servers, for $1.65 billion. Anyscale was founded by the team behind Project Ray, an open-source distributed programming framework, and pivoted after 2022 to focus on scaling services for large language models and other AI tasks. The acquisition allows Nscale to expand its vertically integrated business, which already includes energy, data centers, and orchestration software, by adding workload management and scaling capabilities that neither company could develop as effectively alone. Anyscale will continue operating under its own brand with its approximately 200 employees joining Nscale.
