A Seoul-based robotics company raised $105 million to develop FRIDAY, a wheeled humanoid robot designed for factory work alongside people. The robot emphasizes reliability and safety for manufacturing environments, with 40 of its 64 degrees of freedom dedicated to its hands for precise manipulation tasks like grasping, placing, and adjusting components. Rather than relying solely on vision-language models, the company uses a vision-language-skill approach where individual tasks are built and validated separately, then combined for complex work, supported by simulation software and a learning system to improve capabilities over time. The company plans to use funding to grow its research and engineering teams while deploying robots in automotive, semiconductor, and logistics settings.
