AI chips generate excessive heat, which causes data centers to consume large amounts of electricity and require expensive cooling systems. A startup is using AI agents to discover new materials that could make semiconductor chips more efficient and cooler. The challenge is that materials must meet multiple requirements simultaneously: reducing heat while remaining manufacturable and maintaining proper electrical properties. So far, no AI-discovered materials or drugs have been deployed at commercial scale, though some promising candidates exist.
