Paul Meade, a vice president at Apple who oversaw the Vision Pro headset and led development of AI-powered smart glasses planned for next year, is leaving to join OpenAI's hardware team. Apple's Vision Pro headset did not become a commercial success, but the company is hoping more affordable smart glasses will help it compete with wearable devices from other companies. The departure is attributed to upcoming leadership changes at Apple, where a new CEO will be reorganizing the hardware engineering team in ways that some vice presidents experienced as demotions. OpenAI is currently working with Apple's former chief design officer on an AI device that its CEO has described as more peaceful and calm than existing smartphones.
