Anthropic reportedly struggles to secure cloud compute

TechCrunch: Anthropic’s cloud partnerships are getting messy

Anthropic is reportedly struggling to secure enough compute from cloud providers that increasingly view it as a competitor, even as its infrastructure spending balloons ahead of a planned November IPO.

Get smart on it

Anthropic, a maker of AI technology, is struggling to secure adequate cloud computing capacity from major providers like AWS, Google, and Microsoft, who now view the company as a competitor rather than a customer, according to a leaked regulatory filing. The company believes it could spend more than $750 billion on cloud contracts and is leasing its own data centers and working with third-party operators as alternatives, though it worries these alternatives lack the reliability of major cloud providers. This challenge is significant given that Anthropic reported an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of the year while generating $16.3 billion in revenue, with only two customers accounting for about a fifth of sales. The company is reportedly preparing for an IPO in November.
