AI automation startup Relay shuts down, staff joins Google’s Chrome team

Relay, an AI-powered workflow automation tool launched in 2021, is shutting down after paying customers lose access on September 14. The startup's founder and CEO is joining Google as VP of Product for Chrome, where he plans to integrate AI capabilities into the browser. Relay had aimed to compete with existing automation tools by helping businesses streamline repetitive tasks through AI, but the company was unable to sustain operations. This shutdown reflects Google's broader strategy of embedding AI features across its products, following successful integrations of its Gemini AI into search and Chrome.
