The Verge: The RealReal won’t let AI agents hog designer clothing

The RealReal, a secondhand luxury fashion consignment retailer, said it's updating its bot defense system, effectively making it harder for AI agents to shop on its site. The change comes days after The Verge reported that an AI agent could be used to take advantage of The RealReal's item reserve system. A secondhand luxury fashion retailer has updated its bot defense system to prevent AI agents from exploiting its item reserve feature. The Verge previously reported that an AI agent could continuously re-add items to a shopping cart after the standard 20-minute hold expired, effectively blocking other shoppers from purchasing products for extended periods. Technology companies are promoting AI agents as shopping assistants for consumers, but when agents shop instead of humans, it can disrupt how websites operate and their business models. Retailers are now working to restrict AI agents' access to their platforms as the use cases for agent-based shopping become more common.

OpenMobile-2 proves open-source smartphone agents can rival proprietary models

Smartphone agents don't get better by processing more data. They improve by training on as many different apps as possible. The researchers behind OpenMobile-2 built an open training environment with more than 110 applications, including 35 replicas of popular apps. On real Android devices, their model scores highest among open agents, the authors say.
