OpenAI is planning to announce its first major hardware device, a smart speaker that users can talk to with ChatGPT, with a planned release in 2027. The device will feature a camera and sensors to understand its environment, a rechargeable battery for portability, and mechanical elements that can move to create humanlike interaction. The speaker will include smart home controls, media playback, question-answering, and message response capabilities, and will use an upgraded voice model called GPT-Live.
